Introductory Prayers
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.
Come, O Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of Thy faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love. Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray.
O God, Who didst instruct the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Ghost, grant us by the same Spirit to be truly wise and ever to rejoice in His consolation, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
Jour 1 : Day 1: Saint Raphael, Guide of Travelers
Méditation
Let us consider how the great Archangel Raphael, full of zeal for the glory of God and the salvation of souls, was sent by the Lord to the land of the Medes. There he found the young Tobias, and with fatherly love, he took him under his protection, guided him safely through a perilous journey, and brought him back, rich and happy, to the arms of his parents. Saint Raphael was a faithful companion, a wise guide, and a powerful protector to the young man, teaching us that God provides for His children through the ministry of His holy angels.

O glorious Archangel, Saint Raphael, who didst faithfully guide the young Tobias, I implore thee to be my guide and protector in the perilous journey of this life. As thou didst keep him from all dangers of the way, so keep me from all dangers to my soul. I beseech thee, obtain for me the grace to follow thy holy inspirations and to walk always in the path of God’s commandments, that I may safely arrive at the end of my journey and rejoice with thee in our heavenly home. Amen.
Jour 2 : Day 2: Saint Raphael, Medicine of God
Méditation
Let us meditate upon the name of Raphael, which signifies ‘Medicine of God.’ He is the heavenly physician sent to heal our infirmities of both body and soul. In the sacred history, he provided the remedy that restored sight to the elder Tobit, who had long suffered from blindness. This miraculous healing is a figure of the spiritual healing that Saint Raphael obtains for us, opening the eyes of our soul to the light of divine truth and curing the blindness caused by sin and ignorance.

O most benign Archangel, Saint Raphael, heavenly physician, I come to thee as a patient to his doctor. Thou didst restore sight to the blind Tobit; I pray thee, enlighten my mind and soul. Heal me of my spiritual blindness, of my passions, and of all my infirmities. Obtain for me such purity of heart and clarity of mind that I may see God in His creation and in the events of my life, and serve Him with a perfect will, until I come to see Him face to face in heaven. Amen.
Jour 3 : Day 3: Saint Raphael, Terror of Demons
Méditation
Let us reflect on the power of Saint Raphael over the spirits of darkness. He revealed himself as the terror of demons when he bound the wicked spirit Asmodeus, who had brought death and sorrow to the house of Raguel. By the power of God, Saint Raphael cast out the demon and chained him in the desert, restoring peace and safety to the family of Sarah. This victory teaches us to have recourse to this mighty Archangel in our spiritual combats against the temptations and snares of the devil.

O mighty Prince of the heavenly court, Saint Raphael, who art terrible to the demons, I fly to thy protection in my struggles against the powers of hell. As thou didst vanquish Asmodeus, so I beg thee to defend me from all the assaults of the evil one. Preserve me from all occasions of sin, strengthen me in the hour of temptation, and deliver me from every evil that may afflict my soul, so that I may serve God in peace and holiness all the days of my life. Amen.
Jour 4 : Day 4: Saint Raphael, Patron of Happy Meetings
Méditation
Let us consider Saint Raphael as the patron of happy meetings and holy unions. It was he who arranged the meeting between Tobias and Sarah, a union blessed by God. He guided Tobias not only to a virtuous spouse but also taught him how to enter into the holy state of matrimony with prayer and reverence, thereby making it a source of grace and happiness. Let us entrust to Saint Raphael the choice of our companions in life, especially the choice of a spouse, that our relationships may be founded in God’s will and lead us to sanctity.

O glorious Saint Raphael, angel of chaste love and happy meetings, I commend to thee the important affair of my state in life. If it be God’s will that I should embrace the married state, I beseech thee to guide me to a worthy and virtuous spouse, with whom I may be united in holy love, serve God faithfully, and together attain eternal life. Protect all Christian families and obtain for them the grace of mutual love, fidelity, and peace. Amen.
Jour 5 : Day 5: Saint Raphael, Angel of Joy
Méditation
Let us contemplate the joy that Saint Raphael brought to the family of Tobit. His presence turned sorrow into gladness, fear into peace, and poverty into abundance. When he had accomplished his mission, he revealed the great blessings of God that he had been sent to bestow, filling every heart with gratitude and holy joy. Saint Raphael is truly an angel of joy, for he leads souls to God, the source of all true and lasting happiness. He teaches us that obedience to God’s will, even in trial, is the path to profound and eternal joy.

O blessed Archangel, Saint Raphael, who didst fill the house of Tobit with joy, I pray thee, obtain for me a share in that holy gladness which flows from a pure conscience and a will united to God. Drive away from my heart all sadness, anxiety, and discouragement. Teach me to find my joy in serving the Lord, in doing good to others, and in bearing my crosses with patience, so that I may one day enter into the perfect joy of heaven. Amen.
Jour 6 : Day 6: Saint Raphael, Helper in Need
Méditation
Let us consider how Saint Raphael also provides for the temporal needs of those under his care. He not only guided Tobias on his journey but also assisted him in recovering the money that his father had deposited in a distant land. This act shows us that while our primary concern should be for our spiritual welfare, God, through His angels, also cares for our material necessities. We may, therefore, with confidence, have recourse to Saint Raphael for help in our temporal difficulties, trusting in his powerful intercession and God’s loving providence.

O faithful provider, Saint Raphael, who didst assist Tobias in his temporal affairs, I commend to thee my necessities of body and estate. Thou knowest the difficulties and wants that press upon me. I beseech thee to obtain for me, through thy powerful intercession, such temporal help as is needful for me, according to God’s holy will. Teach me to use the goods of this world with detachment and for the glory of God, always seeking first the Kingdom of Heaven and its justice. Amen.
Jour 7 : Day 7: Saint Raphael, Consoler of the Afflicted
Méditation
Let us meditate on Saint Raphael as a consoler of the afflicted. He was sent to hear the prayers of Tobit and Sarah in their great distress. Both were afflicted with profound sorrow and prayed for death, yet God sent His angel not to end their lives, but to end their trials. Saint Raphael came as a messenger of God’s mercy, to bring them comfort, healing, and a happy resolution to all their woes. This should inspire us with great confidence to call upon him in our own afflictions, knowing that he presents our prayers before the throne of God.

Let us reflect upon the wisdom and prudence of Saint Raphael’s counsel. Throughout his journey with Tobias, he gave him wise and practical advice, not only for the success of his mission but also for his spiritual conduct. He taught him to pray, to trust in God, and to act with virtue and discretion. He is a true master of the spiritual life, a wise counselor who guides souls in the path of righteousness and prudence. Let us ask him to enlighten our minds and guide our decisions, that we may always choose what is pleasing to God.

Jour 9 : Day 9: Saint Raphael, One of the Seven Who Stand Before God

Let us contemplate Saint Raphael as he reveals his true identity: ‘I am the angel Raphael, one of the seven, who stand before the Lord.’ He is a prince of the heavenly court, who stands in the very presence of God, offering Him the prayers of the saints. His mission on earth was an act of perfect obedience and love. Having fulfilled it, he admonished Tobit and his family to bless and praise God forever. Let us join our voices with his, giving thanks to God for the gift of His holy angels and for all the graces we have received through the intercession of Saint Raphael.

Thou art a guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners. I beg thee, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as thou didst assist the young Tobias on his travels. Because thou art the ‘medicine of God,’ I humbly pray thee to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body.
