Novena to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Immaculate Heart of Mary - Illustration prière catholique

    Prière Introductive

    Introductory Prayer

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, refuge of sinners and comfort of the afflicted, I come before thee to consecrate myself anew to thy service. I offer this novena for the glory of God, thine own honor, and the salvation of souls. I desire to meditate upon the virtues and privileges of thy most pure Heart, that I may imitate them and obtain through thy powerful intercession the graces which I seek. (Here state your intention.) I place all my trust in thee, O Mother most merciful. Amen.

    Jour 1 :

Day 1: A Heart Most Pure

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the most perfect Purity of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her heart was ever free from the least stain of sin, original or actual. It was a garden enclosed, a fountain sealed up, a worthy sanctuary for the Son of God. From her conception, she was full of grace, and this purity she preserved and increased throughout her life. Her thoughts, words, and actions were all perfectly pure and directed to the glory of God. This immaculate purity made her heart a mirror of the Divinity and the delight of the Holy Trinity.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, whose Heart is a lily of purity, I am ashamed to appear before thee, for my own heart is stained with so many sins. Yet, trusting in thy maternal goodness, I come to thee. Obtain for me, I beseech thee, a true sorrow for my offenses and a firm purpose of amendment. By the merits of thy spotless purity, grant me the grace to overcome all impure temptations and to preserve a clean heart, that I may one day be worthy to see God in the kingdom of heaven. Amen.

    Jour 2 :

Day 2: A Heart Most Humble

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the profound Humility of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Though exalted above all angels and saints, she ever esteemed herself as the lowly handmaid of the Lord. Her humble response, “Ecce ancilla Domini,” revealed a heart entirely submissive to the divine will, seeking no glory for herself. She concealed the great privileges bestowed upon her and lived a simple, hidden life at Nazareth. Her humility is the foundation of all her other virtues and the source of her unparalleled greatness.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, whose Heart was the throne of humility, obtain for me this virtue which is so dear to God and so necessary for salvation. My heart is filled with pride, self-love, and a desire for the esteem of men. Teach me to know myself, to despise the vain honors of the world, and to accept humiliations with patience. Grant that, following thine example, I may serve God and my neighbor in all humility and thus merit the eternal exaltation promised to the humble. Amen.

    Jour 3 :

Day 3: A Heart Full of Faith

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the lively Faith of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her faith never wavered. At the word of the Angel, she believed that she, a virgin, would become the Mother of God. She lived by faith, pondering in her heart the divine mysteries of her Son’s life. At the foot of the Cross, when the faith of the Apostles themselves was shaken, hers remained firm and unshaken. She is the Virgo Fidelis, the faithful Virgin, a model for all believers.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, whose Heart was a beacon of unwavering faith, I come to thee in my weakness. My faith is often cold and faltering, especially in times of trial and darkness. Strengthen in me the gift of faith. Obtain for me a firm belief in all the truths of our Holy Religion, a trusting confidence in the promises of thy Son, and a courageous spirit to profess my faith openly. May thy example guide me through the shadows of this life to the eternal light of heaven. Amen.

    Jour 4 :

Day 4: A Heart Burning with Divine Love

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the ardent Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary for God. Her heart was a burning furnace of divine love. From the first moment of her existence, she loved God with her whole heart, her whole soul, and all her strength. This love grew ever more intense throughout her life, culminating in her glorious Assumption. Every beat of her heart was an act of perfect love for the Most Holy Trinity. She is the masterpiece of God’s love and the most perfect adorer of His Divine Majesty.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, Queen of all Saints, whose Heart was inflamed with the most perfect love for God, enkindle in my cold heart a spark of that sacred fire. I am tepid and distracted in my love for my Creator. Obtain for me the grace to love God above all things, to desire only His glory, and to conform my will entirely to His. May my every thought, word, and deed be a testament to my love for Him, who is worthy of all love. Amen.

    Jour 5 :

Day 5: A Heart Full of Charity

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the boundless Charity of the Immaculate Heart of Mary toward her neighbor. Her love for God overflowed into a tender and compassionate love for all mankind. She hastened to serve her cousin Elizabeth. At Cana, she interceded for the wedding guests. At the foot of the Cross, she accepted us as her children in the person of Saint John. Her heart is a heart of a mother, ever solicitous for our welfare, ever ready to help us in our needs.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, Mother of Mercy, whose Heart overflows with charity for all thy children, teach me to love my neighbor as thou dost. Remove from my heart all bitterness, envy, and resentment. Grant me a compassionate spirit, that I may be quick to forgive, patient with the faults of others, and generous in serving their needs. May I see in every person the image of thy Son, and love them for His sake, that I may be worthy of the name of thy child. Amen.

    Jour 6 :

Day 6: A Heart Most Patient

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the heroic Patience of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her life was filled with sorrows, yet she bore them all with perfect resignation to the will of God. From the prophecy of Simeon, which foretold that a sword would pierce her soul, to the agony of witnessing her Son’s Passion and Death, her heart endured unspeakable suffering. In all her trials, she remained steadfast, uniting her sorrows with the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus. She is truly the Queen of Martyrs.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, whose Heart was a model of fortitude and patience, look with pity upon me in my afflictions. I am weak and complain easily under the small crosses of daily life. Obtain for me the grace to bear my sufferings with patience and to unite them with the Passion of Christ. Teach me to see the hand of God in every trial and to trust in His loving Providence, so that my sufferings may serve for my sanctification and the salvation of souls. Amen.

    Jour 7 :

Day 7: A Heart Perfectly Obedient

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the perfect Obedience of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Her entire life was a continuous act of obedience to the will of God. Her “Fiat mihi secundum verbum tuum”—Be it done unto me according to thy word—was the motto of her heart. She obeyed the divine inspirations, the laws of her people, and even the unjust decrees of earthly rulers, because she saw in them the expression of God’s permissive will. Her obedience reversed the disobedience of Eve and opened the gates of Heaven.

    Prière du jour

O Mary, most obedient Virgin, whose Heart was ever in perfect harmony with the will of the Father, cure my rebellious will. I often follow my own inclinations rather than the commandments of God and the duties of my state in life. Obtain for me a spirit of prompt and cheerful obedience to God’s law, to the teachings of His Church, and to my lawful superiors. May I, like thee, find my joy and my peace in doing the will of God in all things. Amen.

    Jour 8 :

Day 8: A Heart Pierced with Sorrow

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the sorrows of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. As Simeon prophesied, a sword of sorrow did indeed pierce her heart. She suffered with her Son at every moment of His Passion. Her heart was a sea of bitterness, yet her grief was borne with love and for our redemption. Let us consider the anguish she felt at seeing her beloved Son betrayed, scourged, crowned with thorns, and crucified. Her sorrow was second only to His, making her the Co-Redemptrix of the human race.

    Prière du jour

O Mother of Sorrows, whose Heart was crushed with grief for our sakes, grant me the gift of true contrition. Let me understand the evil of sin, which caused the immense sufferings of thee and thy divine Son. I detest my offenses and beg for pardon. By the merits of thy sorrowful heart, obtain for me a hatred for sin and the grace to weep for my transgressions, that I may share one day in the glory that was born of thy tears. Amen.

    Jour 9 :

Day 9: A Heart that is a Refuge for Sinners

    Méditation

Let us meditate upon the Immaculate Heart of Mary as the Refuge of Sinners. Our Lord has given us His own Mother to be our advocate and protector. Her heart is a safe harbor in the storms of life, a place of solace and mercy for the penitent soul. She does not despise the sinner but welcomes him with maternal tenderness, interceding for him and obtaining for him the grace of conversion. As she promised at Fatima, her Immaculate Heart is our refuge and the way that will lead us to God.

    Prière du jour

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, Refuge of Sinners, I cast myself with confidence into the arms of thy mercy. I am a poor sinner, but I am thy child. Look upon me with compassion and do not abandon me. To thy heart I consecrate my past, with its sins; my present, with its struggles; and my future, with its uncertainties. Be my refuge in life, my comfort in trial, and my advocate at the hour of my death. Lead me safely to the Heart of Jesus, that I may praise your united love for all eternity. Amen.

    Prière Conclusive

    Concluding Prayers

O Immaculate Heart of Mary, I trust in thee. Let me not be confounded. From the snares of the enemy, deliver me. In the hour of my death, call me and bid me come to thy Son, that with the Angels and Saints, I may praise thee for ever and ever. Amen.

Recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.

Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation!
