Consecration to Saint Joseph
O Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, foster-father of the Son of God, and protector of Holy Church, I come before thee to consecrate myself to thy paternal care. Throughout thy life, thou wert a model of every virtue, a faithful and prudent servant, and a comforter of the afflicted.
To thee I consecrate myself, body and soul. I give to thee my heart and all my affections. I place in thy hands my life and my death, my joys and my sorrows, and all my works, that thou mayest be my guide, my protector, and my father.
O most chaste spouse of the Mother of God, obtain for me a great purity of heart and a love for the interior life. Thou who didst feel the sorrows of Jesus and Mary, console me in the trials of this life, and assist me in the hour of my death.
O glorious Patriarch, Patron of the Universal Church, I choose thee as my special patron. I resolve to honour thee with a particular devotion. Be thou my father, my protector, my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me a great purity of heart and a fervent love of the interior life. After thy example, may all my actions be for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
O blessed Joseph, pray for me, that I may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
Contexte Historique
The practice of consecrating oneself to Saint Joseph is a venerable tradition in the Catholic Church, flowing from his unique role as the foster-father of Jesus and the chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Devotion to him grew significantly over the centuries, and in 1870, Pope Pius IX formally declared him the Patron of the Universal Church. This act solidified his position as a powerful intercessor and protector for all the faithful. A consecration to Saint Joseph is an act of entrusting one’s spiritual and temporal well-being to his fatherly care, seeking his guidance and protection in imitation of his virtues of humility, obedience, and faithfulness.
