Novena to Saint Martha

First Day: The Hospitality of Saint Martha

Saint Martha, you welcomed Jesus into your home with overflowing joy. Your hospitality was a reflection of your love for God. Lord, we pray that you grant us the same generosity of heart. Help us to open our doors and our hearts to those who are in need, to offer refuge to those who are alone, and to share our goods with those who are deprived. May our welcome be a testimony of your love and a source of comfort to those we meet. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

    Second Day: Humble Service

Saint Martha, you devoted yourself to the service of Jesus and his disciples. Your humility and devotion were an example of true charity. Lord, teach us to serve others with humility and joy. May we not seek recognition or personal glory, but act out of love for you and for our neighbor. Give us the strength to overcome our pride and selfishness, so that we may become true servants of your love. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

    Third Day: Attentive Listening

Saint Martha, although preoccupied with household chores, you eventually learned the importance of listening to the words of Jesus. Lord, help us to be attentive to your word and to that of our brothers and sisters. May we listen with compassion and understanding, without judgment or prejudice. Give us the wisdom to discern your will and the strength to put it into practice in our daily lives. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

    Fourth Day: Active Faith

Saint Martha, you testified to an unwavering faith in Jesus, even in the face of the death of your brother Lazarus. Lord, strengthen our faith and our trust in you. May we never doubt your love and your mercy. Give us the strength to overcome the trials and difficulties of life, knowing that you are always at our side. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

    Fifth Day: Concrete Charity

Saint Martha, your love for Jesus was manifested through concrete and selfless actions. Lord, teach us to love our neighbor as you have loved us. May our charity not only be a feeling, but be translated into acts of generosity, compassion, and service. Give us the strength to step out of our comfort zone and reach out to those who are in need. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

Sixth Day: The Courage to Testify

Saint Martha, you proclaimed your faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God. Lord, give us the courage to testify to your love and your truth. May we not be afraid to share our faith with those around us. Give us the right words and the strength to convince, so that we can bring others to know and love you. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

    Seventh Day: Perseverance in Prayer

Saint Martha, your constant and fervent prayer was a source of strength and comfort. Lord, help us to persevere in prayer. May we take the time to talk to you each day, to confide in you our joys and our sorrows, and to ask for your guidance. Give us the grace to feel your presence and to experience your love in our lives. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

Eighth Day: Abandonment to God’s Will

Saint Martha, you accepted God’s will, even when you did not understand it. Lord, teach us to surrender to your will. May we trust in your wisdom and your love, even when we are faced with trials and difficulties. Give us the strength to say ‘yes’ to your plan for our life, knowing that you always want our good. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.

Ninth Day: The Joy of Service

Saint Martha, you found joy in the service of Jesus and your brothers and sisters. Lord, fill our hearts with the joy of service. May we not consider service as an obligation, but as an opportunity to love you and to radiate your love in the world. Give us the grace to find joy in the little things and to see your face in every person we meet. We offer you this day and ask for your intercession. Amen.
