Prière Introductive
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
O Mary, Mother of God, who under the title of Our Lady of the Deliverance didst manifest thy tender compassion for the people of Martinique, we fly to thy patronage in our necessities. As thou didst shield them from perils of body and soul, so too protect us in our present trials. Through thy powerful intercession, may we be delivered from all evil and persevere in the love of thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Jour 1 : For Faith in God’s Providence
Méditation
Let us consider how the faithful of Martinique, in the face of nature’s fury and the desolation wrought by the fiery mountain, did not despair, but lifted their eyes to thee, O Mother of Deliverance. They placed their trust not in the shifting earth, but in the unshakable providence of God, whose will thou didst ever perfectly embrace. In all our uncertainties and fears, let us learn from them to abandon ourselves with childlike confidence into the arms of our Heavenly Father, knowing that His loving gaze is ever upon us.
Prière du jour
O Blessed Virgin, Our Lady of the Deliverance, who didst stand steadfast at the foot of the Cross, obtain for us a faith so strong that it may not be shaken by any earthly trial. When darkness surrounds us and our understanding fails, be thou our light and our guide. Teach us to see the hand of God in all things and to say with thee, “Be it done unto me according to thy word.” Amen.
Jour 2 : For Deliverance from Sin
Méditation
Thou, O Mary, art the Immaculate Conception, the one chosen by God to be free from every stain of sin from the first moment of thy existence. Thou art she who was foretold to crush the head of the ancient serpent. The greatest evil, the most terrible bondage, is not earthly calamity but the slavery of sin. It is from this that thy Son came to deliver us, and it is to thee, His purest Mother, that we turn for aid in our struggle against temptation and our own evil inclinations.
Prière du jour
O Mary, most pure, Refuge of Sinners, we implore thy powerful help. Look with pity upon our souls, so often wounded by sin. By thy immaculate purity, we beseech thee, deliver us from the chains of our evil habits. Obtain for us a sincere sorrow for our past faults, a firm purpose of amendment, and the grace to avoid all that which is displeasing to thy Divine Son. Amen.
Jour 3 : For Hope in Times of Affliction
Méditation
Contemplate the heart of our Mother, pierced by a sword of sorrow, yet ever filled with an unconquerable hope. She who held the lifeless body of her Son knew that death was not the end. The people of Martinique, amidst ruin and death, looked to thy image and found not despair, but a reason to hope and to rebuild. In our own sorrows, whether of body, mind, or spirit, let us not give way to despondency, but fix our gaze upon thee, O Morning Star, who dost herald the dawn of eternal day.
Prière du jour
Our Lady of the Deliverance, Comforter of the Afflicted, infuse into our hearts the supernatural virtue of hope. When the cross we bear seems too heavy, and our path is strewn with thorns, remind us of the joys of heaven that await the faithful servants of God. Be our anchor in the storms of life, that we may never lose sight of the eternal shore for which we are destined. Amen.
Jour 4 : For Charity towards our Neighbour
Méditation
No sooner hadst thou received the word of the Angel than thou didst make haste to visit thy kinswoman Elizabeth, to serve her in her need. Thy life, O Blessed Mother, was a continuous act of charity. In times of great disaster, as in Martinique, the true measure of faith is shown in charity towards those who suffer. We are called not only to seek deliverance for ourselves, but to be instruments of God’s mercy and deliverance for others.
Prière du jour
O Queen of Charity, Our Lady of the Deliverance, enkindle in our hearts a flame of true love for our neighbour. Root out from us all selfishness, envy, and indifference. Grant that we may see the face of thy Son in the poor, the suffering, and the abandoned, and that we may hasten to serve them with the same selfless love wherewith thou didst serve Saint Elizabeth. Amen.
Jour 5 : For Deliverance from Fear and Anxiety
Méditation
Consider the flight into Egypt, when thou and Saint Joseph, with the Divine Child, didst flee into a strange land to escape the wrath of a wicked king. In the face of grave danger and profound uncertainty, thy heart, O Mary, was at peace, for it rested entirely in God. How often are our own hearts troubled by anxieties for the future and fears of what may come to pass. Let us learn from thee the secret of that peace which the world cannot give.
Prière du jour
O Mother of Trust, Our Lady of the Deliverance, cast out from our souls the spirit of fear. Deliver us from all useless anxiety and worry. Teach us to do our part with diligence, and then to leave the outcome with perfect trust in the hands of God. Cover us with the mantle of thy protection, that, resting securely in thy care, we may serve God with a calm and untroubled heart. Amen.
Jour 6 : For Purity of Heart and Mind
Méditation
The Lord hath said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” Thou, O Virgin most pure, didst see God not only with the eyes of faith, but didst bear Him in thy womb and gaze upon His face in the stable of Bethlehem. The world presents to us countless temptations against holy purity, seeking to defile our souls, which are temples of the Holy Ghost. To preserve this precious virtue, we must fly to thee, the terror of demons and the model of all purity.
Prière du jour
O Mary, Mirror of Purity, Our Lady of the Deliverance, guard our minds, our hearts, and our senses. In moments of temptation, be our shield and our defense. Obtain for us a great horror of sin, a love for modesty, and the grace to keep our souls unspotted for God. May our hearts be so pure that we may one day be worthy to see God face to face in heaven. Amen.
Jour 7 : For Fortitude in Trial
Méditation
From the prophecy of Simeon to the final agony on Calvary, thy life, O Mother of Sorrows, was a testament to heroic fortitude. Thou didst not shrink from suffering, but didst unite thy sorrows to the sacrifice of thy Son for the redemption of the world. The Christian life is a warfare, and we are called to be soldiers of Christ. To fight the good fight, we need the virtue of fortitude, lest we grow weary and fall by the wayside.
Prière du jour
O Queen of Martyrs, Our Lady of the Deliverance, strengthen us in our weakness. When we are tempted to cowardice, to compromise our faith, or to abandon our duties, inspire us with thy courage. Grant that we may bear our daily crosses with patience and fortitude, uniting our small sufferings with the Passion of Christ, for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Amen.
Jour 8 : For the Faithful Departed
Méditation
Thy maternal heart, O Mary, extends its compassion not only to thy children on earth but also to those who suffer in the cleansing fires of Purgatory. They long for the vision of God, yet are detained to expiate their faults. How many souls from the great catastrophe of Martinique, and from our own families and friends, may now be in that place of suffering, awaiting the succour of our prayers. It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.
Prière du jour
O Clement Mother, Our Lady of the Deliverance, turn thy eyes of mercy towards the Poor Souls in Purgatory. We offer our prayers, works, and sufferings in union with the merits of thy Son, for their relief and deliverance. Be to them a comforting mother, and hasten the day of their entry into the glory of paradise, where they may praise God and intercede for us for all eternity. Amen.
Jour 9 : For the Grace of Final Perseverance
Méditation
At the end of thy earthly sojourn, O Blessed Mother, thou wast assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. This is the final deliverance for which we all hope: deliverance from eternal death and entry into everlasting life. This greatest of all graces, the grace of a holy death and final perseverance, cannot be merited, but must be implored unceasingly. Let us entrust the final and most important moment of our lives to thy maternal care.
Prière du jour
O Gate of Heaven, Our Lady of the Deliverance, we consecrate to thee the last moments of our life. When our senses fail, when our mind is clouded, and our soul is about to depart from this world, be thou at our side. Defend us from the final assaults of the enemy, strengthen us with the holy sacraments, and receive our souls into thy arms, to present them, pure and holy, to thy Son, Jesus. Amen.
Prière Conclusive
We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
Our Lady of the Deliverance, pray for us.
Let us pray.
Almighty and merciful God, who in the Blessed Virgin Mary hast given a perpetual succour to them that are in danger; grant that we who implore her patronage may by her intercession be delivered from all evils and may rejoice in thy peace for ever. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
