Prière Introductive
Introductory Prayer for Each Day
O glorious Wonder-worker, Saint Peregrine, thou who didst receive the title of ‘The Mighty Worker of Miracles’ because of the numerous prodigies which God wrought through thee for the relief of suffering humanity. For many years didst thou bear in thine own flesh a cancerous disease that ate its way to the very bone, reducing thee to the extremity of suffering, until, by recourse to God, thou wast miraculously healed. Having thus been taught by thy long and patient suffering the compassion which a loving God feels for the afflicted, thou didst devote the rest of thy life to the service of the sick. I beseech thee, therefore, O great Saint, to obtain for me the grace to bear my own sufferings with patience, and to obtain for me the healing of my infirmities, if it be God’s holy will. Amen.
Jour 1 : Day 1: The Grace of Conversion
Méditation
Reflect on the early life of Peregrine, who in his youthful zeal opposed the Church. Consider the moment of grace when Saint Philip Benizi turned the other cheek, an act of charity that pierced Peregrine’s heart and led him to profound conversion and a life of penance in the Order of the Servites. Let us examine our own lives and see where we, too, are called to a deeper conversion, turning away from our sins and toward the merciful heart of God.
Prière du jour
O Saint Peregrine, who wast converted from a life of error by a single act of Christian meekness, obtain for me the grace of a sincere and lasting conversion of heart. Help me to see my own faults and to turn away from all that displeases God, that I may serve Him faithfully all the days of my life. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 2 : Day 2: The Virtue of Patience
Méditation
Consider the long years Saint Peregrine endured the excruciating pain of the cancer on his leg. He bore this cross not with complaint, but with heroic patience, uniting his sufferings to those of our Crucified Saviour. He saw in his affliction an opportunity for purification and merit. In our own trials, great and small, we are called to imitate this patience, trusting that God permits our sufferings for a greater good.
Prière du jour
O model of patience, Saint Peregrine, teach me to bear the trials and sufferings of this life with a patient and resigned spirit. When I am tempted to despair or complain, remind me of thy example and of the infinite merits of the Passion of Christ. Grant that my sufferings may serve for my salvation and the salvation of others. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 3 : Day 3: The Power of Prayer
Méditation
On the night before his leg was to be amputated, Saint Peregrine dragged himself before a crucifix and spent hours in fervent prayer. He placed all his trust not in human remedies, but in the divine Physician. It was this absolute confidence in God’s power that merited his miraculous cure. Let us learn from him to turn to God first in all our necessities, with a faith that knows no bounds.
Prière du jour
O Saint Peregrine, whose prayer was so powerful as to obtain a manifest miracle, teach me to pray with faith, perseverance, and confidence. In my affliction, let me not trust solely in earthly means, but turn my heart and soul to God, from whom all healing and all good things do come. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 4 : Day 4: Devotion to the Passion
Méditation
Saint Peregrine’s life was marked by a deep devotion to the sufferings of Christ. He understood that the Cross is the source of all grace and healing. It was before the image of the Crucified that he prayed, and it was from the wounded side of Christ that his healing flowed. Let us resolve to meditate more frequently on the Passion of our Lord, finding therein our strength and our consolation.
Prière du jour
O faithful servant of the Crucified Lord, Saint Peregrine, instill in my heart a tender devotion to the Passion of Jesus. May I often meditate upon His sacred wounds, especially in my moments of pain, and draw from them strength, consolation, and hope. May the Cross be my refuge and my salvation. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 5 : Day 5: The Gift of Humility
Méditation
Despite his great sanctity and the miracle he received, Saint Peregrine remained profoundly humble. He never sought honour or recognition, but desired only to serve God and his brethren in the hidden life of the cloister. He knew that all good came from God alone, and he attributed the miracle entirely to God’s mercy. This humility is the foundation of all true holiness.
Prière du jour
O humble Saint Peregrine, who didst flee from the praises of men, obtain for me the grace of true humility. Help me to recognize my own nothingness before God, to attribute all good to Him, and to accept humiliations for His love, that He may be glorified in all things. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 6 : Day 6: Charity towards our Neighbour
Méditation
Having been healed himself, Saint Peregrine showed immense compassion for all who suffered. He became a source of comfort and hope for the sick, the poor, and the afflicted, seeing the face of the suffering Christ in each of them. His own suffering did not harden his heart, but made it tender and merciful. Let us ask for the grace to use our own experiences of pain to console others.
Prière du jour
O charitable Saint Peregrine, whose heart was moved with pity for all who suffer, teach me to be compassionate and merciful towards my neighbour. Help me to comfort the sorrowful, to assist the needy, and to pray for the sick, that I may be a true disciple of Him who went about doing good. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 7 : Day 7: Hope in the Midst of Trial
Méditation
Even when faced with a seemingly hopeless disease and the prospect of a terrible surgery, Saint Peregrine never lost hope. His hope was not in a cure, but in God’s loving Providence. He knew that whether in sickness or in health, he was in the hands of a loving Father. This theological virtue of hope is a firm and constant trust in God’s promises, a virtue we must cultivate in our own trials.
Prière du jour
O Saint Peregrine, anchor of hope for the afflicted, in my moments of darkness and fear, strengthen my hope in God. Remind me that He has not abandoned me, and that He can draw good even from the greatest evils. Obtain for me a firm and unshakable hope in His mercy and His promises. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 8 : Day 8: The Grace of Healing
Méditation
Reflect upon the moment of the miracle. While Saint Peregrine slept, he dreamt that the Lord Jesus descended from the cross and touched his diseased leg. Upon waking, he found himself completely cured. This great miracle stands as a testament to the power of God and the intercession of His saints. It is a sign for all ages that nothing is impossible for God, and that He hears the prayers of His faithful servants.
Prière du jour
O glorious Wonder-worker, Saint Peregrine, who didst merit to be miraculously healed by the touch of the Divine Hand, I come to thee with confidence in my present need. Intercede for me, that I may obtain the healing of my infirmities of body and soul. If it be not God’s will to grant a physical cure, obtain for me the grace to accept my cross and to unite it with the sufferings of Jesus. Through thy powerful intercession, I present my petition… (mention your request). Amen.
Jour 9 : Day 9: A Life of Thanksgiving
Méditation
The rest of Saint Peregrine’s life was a hymn of thanksgiving to God for the great mercy he had received. He did not forget the miracle, but allowed it to fuel his zeal for God’s glory and the salvation of souls until his holy death. Let us learn from him to cultivate a spirit of gratitude, thanking God not only for extraordinary favours, but for the daily blessings of our lives.
