Prayers of Consecration
An act of consecration is a personal devotion wherein a person dedicates themself, their family, or some other thing to God through a particular devotion, such as to the Sacred Heart of Jesus or the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is an offering of one’s whole being to God, placing all that one is and has under His divine protection and will.
Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
(By Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque)
I, (N.N.), give and consecrate to the Sacred Heart of our Lord Jesus Christ, my person and my life, my actions, pains and sufferings, so that I may be unwilling to make use of any part of my being save to honour, love, and glorify the Sacred Heart.
It is my unchanging intention to be all His and to do all for His love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Him.
I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protector of my life, the assurance of my salvation, the remedy of my weakness and inconstancy, the atonement for all the faults of my life, and my secure refuge at the hour of death.
Be Thou, therefore, O Heart of goodness, my justification before God the Father, and turn away from me the strokes of His righteous anger. O Heart of love, I place all my trust in Thee, for I fear all things from my own weakness and malice, but I hope for all things from Thy goodness and bounty.
Consume in me all that can displease Thee or resist Thy holy will; and may Thy pure love be so deeply impressed upon my heart that I may never be able to forget Thee or to be separated from Thee. May I obtain from all Thy loving kindness the grace of having my name written in Thee, for in Thee I desire to place all my happiness and all my glory, living and dying in very bondage to Thee. Amen.
Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
(According to Saint Louis Marie de Montfort)
I, (N.N.), a faithless sinner, renew and ratify to-day in thy hands, O Immaculate Mother, the vows of my Baptism; I renounce forever Satan, his pomps and works; and I give myself entirely to Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Wisdom, to carry my cross after Him all the days of my life, and to be more faithful to Him than I have ever been before.
In the presence of all the heavenly court I choose thee this day for my Mother and Mistress. I deliver and consecrate to thee, as thy slave, my body and soul, my goods, both interior and exterior, and even the value of all my good actions, past, present and future; leaving to thee the entire and full right of disposing of me, and all that belongs to me, without exception, according to thy good pleasure, for the greater glory of God, in time and in eternity. Amen.
Act of Consecration to Saint Joseph
O Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, obtain for me a pure, humble, charitable mind, and perfect resignation to the divine Will. Be my guide, my father, and my model through life, that I may merit to die in thy arms, as Jesus and Mary died in thine.
O glorious Saint Joseph, I choose thee to-day for my father, my protector, and the guide of my soul. I consecrate myself to thy service; deign to number me amongst thy most devoted servants. I desire to honour thee, to love thee, and to obey thee, after the example of Jesus and Mary. Receive me, therefore, for thy child; watch over me during my life, and abandon me not at the hour of my death. Amen.
Contexte Historique
The act of consecration is a venerable tradition in the Church, signifying a complete and voluntary surrender of oneself to God. While its roots are ancient, modern devotion owes much to the revelations of the Sacred Heart to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century and the profound Marian theology of Saint Louis de Montfort. These devotions emphasize a total gift of self, entrusting one’s life, merits, and prayers to Jesus through the Sacred Heart, or to Jesus through the hands of His Blessed Mother, recognizing them as sure channels of grace and powerful intercessors.
