Introductory Prayer for Each Day
O my God, I firmly believe that Thou art here present and dost behold me. I adore Thee with the most profound humility. I am heartily sorry for having offended Thy divine Majesty, and I resolve, with the help of Thy grace, never more to offend Thee. I beseech Thee to enlighten my mind, that I may know Thee better, and to inflame my will with Thy holy love, that I may worthily make this novena to the honour of the Sacred Heart of Thy beloved Son. Amen.
Jour 1 : First Day: A Heart Burning with Love for Us
Méditation
Let us consider the immense love of the Heart of Jesus for us. This divine Heart burned with love for us from the moment of its creation, and has never ceased to burn with the most ardent love. It is a furnace of love, which has consumed countless saints, and in which we too may be all inflamed. Let us approach this Heart and draw from it the fire of divine charity, that we may love God and our neighbour for the love of God.

O most loving Heart of Jesus, I adore Thee with all my heart. I thank Thee for the infinite love wherewith Thou didst love me, even before I was created. I beseech Thee, grant me the grace to love Thee with my whole heart, my whole soul, and with all my strength. Inflame my cold heart with the fire of Thy love, that I may live only for Thee and in Thee. Amen.
Jour 2 : Second Day: A Heart Pierced for Our Sins
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced by a lance upon the Cross. From this open wound flowed blood and water, symbols of the sacraments which give life to our souls. This wound was opened for our sins, and it remains open as a refuge for sinners. Let us enter into this loving Heart, and hide ourselves therein from the justice of God. Let us wash our souls in the precious blood which flows therefrom, and make a firm resolution to sin no more.

O most merciful Heart of Jesus, wounded for my transgressions, I detest my sins which were the cause of Thy sufferings. I cast myself at Thy feet and implore Thy pardon. Open to me Thy sacred wound as a place of refuge. Cleanse me in the stream of Thy Precious Blood, and grant me the grace of true contrition and a firm purpose of amendment. Amen.
Jour 3 : Third Day: A Heart, Source of All Consolation
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the source of all consolation. How many afflicted souls have found comfort in this divine Heart! In all our trials, our anxieties, and our sorrows, let us have recourse to the Heart of Jesus. He invites us, saying: ‘Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you.’ Let us then cast all our cares upon His Heart, confident that He will comfort us in our tribulations and give us strength to bear our crosses.

O most sweet Heart of Jesus, comforter of the afflicted, behold me at Thy feet, burdened with many trials. To whom shall I turn, if not to Thee, who art the fount of all consolation? I place all my trust in Thee. Speak but a word to my soul, and it shall be comforted. Grant me the grace to accept my sufferings in union with Thine, and to find in Thy Heart my strength and my peace. Amen.
Jour 4 : Fourth Day: A Heart, Fountain of Life and Holiness
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the fountain of life and holiness. All the graces which sanctify our souls flow from this adorable Heart. It is the source of all virtues, the model of all perfection. If we desire to grow in holiness, we must draw from this inexhaustible fountain. Let us drink deeply of its living waters, that we may be transformed into the likeness of our divine Saviour.

O Heart of Jesus, fountain of life and holiness, I long to become a saint. But I am weak and frail, and of myself I can do nothing. I come to Thee, the source of all grace. Purify my heart, strengthen my will, and fill me with Thy spirit of holiness. Grant that I may live a life worthy of a child of God, and that all my actions may be done for Thy greater glory. Amen.
Jour 5 : Fifth Day: A Heart, Ocean of Mercy
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as an ocean of mercy. How great is the mercy of God towards poor sinners! The Heart of Jesus is ever ready to pardon the most grievous offenses, if only we approach it with a contrite and humble heart. Let us not be discouraged by the multitude or the enormity of our sins. Let us cast them into the abyss of mercy which is the Heart of Jesus, and they shall be consumed as a drop of water in a fiery furnace.

O Heart of Jesus, abyss of all mercy, I come before Thee as a poor sinner in need of Thy forgiveness. I acknowledge my faults and I am sorry for them. Have mercy on me, O Lord, according to Thy great mercy. I place all my hope in Thy Sacred Heart. Say to my soul, ‘Thy sins are forgiven thee,’ and grant me the grace never again to offend Thee. Amen.
Jour 6 : Sixth Day: A Heart, Our Peace and Reconciliation
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as our peace and reconciliation. Through sin, we were at enmity with God, but Jesus, through the sacrifice of His life, has reconciled us to the Father. His Heart is the pledge of our peace. In the midst of the storms of life, when our passions rage and temptations assail us, let us find our peace in the Heart of Jesus. There we shall find a calm and safe harbour.

O Heart of Jesus, our peace and reconciliation, I thank Thee for having reconciled me with Thy Father. Thou art my only hope of salvation. In all my temptations, I will fly to Thee. In all my anxieties, I will trust in Thee. Grant me that peace which the world cannot give, the peace of a soul united to Thee. May Thy Heart be my dwelling place now and for all eternity. Amen.
Jour 7 : Seventh Day: A Heart, Victim for Sinners
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as a victim for sinners. In the Holy Eucharist, Jesus perpetuates the sacrifice of the Cross. His Heart is there, a living victim, continually offered to the Father for the sins of mankind. Let us unite ourselves to this divine victim. Let us offer ourselves with Jesus to the eternal Father, in a spirit of reparation for our own sins and for the sins of the whole world.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, victim of love, I unite my poor heart to Thine in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. I offer myself with Thee to Thy heavenly Father. Accept this offering in reparation for my ingratitude and for the outrages committed against Thee in the Blessed Sacrament. Grant that I may become a willing victim, ready to suffer all things for Thy love. Amen.
Jour 8 : Eighth Day: A Heart, Promise of Eternal Life
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the promise of eternal life. Our Lord has promised to those who are devoted to His Sacred Heart that He will be their secure refuge in life and especially at the hour of their death. He has promised that they shall not perish, and that His Heart will be their abode. Let us cherish this devotion, which gives us so sweet a hope for a holy death and a happy eternity.

O most loving Heart of Jesus, who hast promised eternal life to those who trust in Thee, I consecrate to Thee the last moments of my life. When my eyes shall close to the light of this world, be Thou the light of my soul. When my lips can no longer pronounce Thy holy name, may my heart repeat it with every beat. Receive my soul into Thy loving embrace, and lead me to the joys of paradise. Amen.
Jour 9 : Ninth Day: A Heart, King and Center of All Hearts
Méditation
Let us consider the Sacred Heart of Jesus as the King and center of all hearts. Jesus must reign. He must reign in our hearts, in our families, in our society. Let us consecrate ourselves entirely to His Sacred Heart. Let us proclaim Him King of our souls, and promise to obey His laws. Let us labour to extend His kingdom on earth, that all men may know and love Him, and that His Heart may be the center of all hearts.

Concluding Prayer for Each Day
O Divine Jesus, who hast said, ‘Ask, and you shall receive; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you,’ behold me prostrate at Thy feet. Animated with a lively faith and confidence in these promises, dictated by Thy Sacred Heart and pronounced by Thy adorable lips, I come to ask of Thee (Here mention your request).
From whom shall I ask, O sweet Jesus, if not from Thee, whose Heart is an inexhaustible source of all graces and merits? Where shall I seek, if not in the treasure of Thy Heart, which contains all the riches of the clemency and bounty of God? Where shall I knock, if not at the door of Thy Sacred Heart, through which God Himself comes to us, and through which we must go to God?
To Thee, then, O Heart of Jesus, I have recourse. In Thee I find consolation when afflicted, protection when persecuted, strength when overwhelmed with trials, and light in doubt and darkness. I firmly believe Thou canst grant me the grace I implore, even though it should require a miracle. Thou hast only to will it, and my prayer is granted. I know I am unworthy of Thy favours, but Thou art the God of mercies, and Thou wilt not refuse a contrite and humble heart. Cast upon me a look of pity, I conjure Thee, and Thy compassionate Heart will find in my miseries and weakness a pressing motive for granting my petition.
But, my most amiable Saviour, my chief desire is to accomplish Thy holy will. If Thou grantest me the grace I ask, I will receive it with gratitude. If Thou refusest it, I will adore Thy divine will and bless Thee for it. O Jesus, my Saviour, I offer Thee my prayer, and I unite it with all the prayers which are offered to Thee in heaven and on earth. Amen.
