Novena to God the Father, Creator and Merciful Lord

God the Father - Illustration prière catholique

    Prière Introductive

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    Act of Contrition:
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen.

    Opening Prayer:
O God, our Father in Heaven, infinite in majesty and goodness, I humbly come before You to offer this novena. I desire to honor You, to love You, and to place all my trust in Your paternal care. I unite my prayers with the merits of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the saints. I make this novena especially for the following intention: (State your intention here). Grant this, and all that I need, according to Your holy will. Amen.

Jour 1 : Day 1: God the Father, Almighty Creator

    Méditation

We begin our novena by contemplating God the Father as the Creator of Heaven and Earth, Pater omnipotens, Creator cæli et terræ. From nothingness, He brought forth all that exists by the power of His Word. Every star, every living creature, and our very souls are a testament to His infinite power, wisdom, and love. As the First Person of the Most Holy Trinity, He is the uncaused cause, the source of all being. Let us reflect on the order and beauty of creation and recognize in it the signature of our Father, who made us in His own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).

    Prière du jour

O Almighty Father, I adore You as the Creator of all things, seen and unseen. I thank You for the gift of my life and for the wondrous world You have entrusted to our care. Grant me the grace to see Your hand in all of creation and to live a life that gives glory to Your name. Help me to respect the sanctity of life and the integrity of creation, using Your gifts not for my own selfish ends, but for Your greater honor. Amen.

Jour 2 : Day 2: God the Father, Our Loving Provider

    Méditation

Today, we meditate on the Divine Providence of God the Father. Our Lord Jesus Christ assures us: ‘Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?’ (Matthew 6:26). The Father’s care is not a distant, impersonal force; it is an intimate, paternal attention to the smallest details of our lives. He who created us does not abandon us. He sustains us in being and guides all events, even those that seem chaotic or painful, towards a final good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

    Prière du jour

O Most Provident Father, I abandon myself completely to Your paternal care. Banish from my heart all anxiety and fear for the future. Increase my faith in Your loving Providence, that I may seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness, confident that all necessary things will be given to me. Help me to accept Your will in all circumstances, trusting that You are always working for my ultimate salvation. Amen.

Jour 3 : Day 3: God the Father, Font of All Mercy

    Méditation

The Father is not only our Creator but also our Merciful Judge. The Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32) reveals the true heart of the Father. He does not wait for us to be perfect to love us; He runs to meet us while we are still ‘a long way off,’ covered in the filth of our sins. His justice is inseparable from His mercy. He yearns for our return and is ready to forgive, restore our dignity as His children, and celebrate our repentance. He is ‘slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love’ (Psalm 103:8).

    Prière du jour

O Father of Mercies, I come before You as a sinner, conscious of my failings and my distance from You. Like the prodigal son, I ask for Your forgiveness. Clothe me once more in the robe of sanctifying grace, place the ring of fidelity on my finger, and welcome me back into the safety of Your home. Grant me a contrite heart and the grace to extend to others the same boundless mercy You have shown to me. Amen.

Jour 4 : Day 4: God the Father, the Divine Lawgiver

    Méditation

God the Father is the Divine Lawgiver, who gave Moses the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. His law is not an arbitrary set of rules designed to restrict our freedom, but a loving guide for our happiness and salvation. His commandments are a path to true liberty—freedom from the slavery of sin. To obey the Father’s will is to align our lives with the very structure of reality He created. Jesus Himself taught us to pray, ‘Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven‘ (Matthew 6:10), showing that perfect submission to the Father’s will is the key to holiness.

    Prière du jour

O Holy Father, whose will is our peace, I consecrate my will to Yours. Inscribe Your law upon my heart that I may love what You command and desire what You promise. When I do not understand Your plan, grant me the faith to trust You. When Your will is difficult, grant me the strength to embrace it. May my every thought, word, and deed be a testament to my desire to do Your will alone. Amen.

Jour 5 : Day 5: The Father and the Eternal Son

    Méditation

We now turn our gaze to the inner life of the Most Holy Trinity. God the Father is the eternal Source, the principle without principle, from whom the Son is eternally begotten. ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son‘ (John 3:16). This is not a begetting in time, but an eternal act of love and knowledge within the Godhead. The Son is the perfect image of the Father, the Word through whom all things were made. To see Jesus is to see the Father (John 14:9). This relationship of perfect love is the model for our own relationship with God.

    Prière du jour

O Eternal Father, who from all eternity begets the Son in a perfect act of love, I adore You in this profound mystery. Through Your Son, Jesus Christ, You have revealed Yourself to us and adopted us as Your children. Grant me the grace to know Jesus more intimately, so that through Him, I may come to know and love You more perfectly. May my life be hidden with Christ in You, O God. Amen.

Jour 6 : Day 6: The Father and the Holy Spirit

    Méditation

The Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, proceeds eternally from the Father and the Son (Filioque) as from a single principle. He is the bond of love between them. Jesus promised He would ask the Father, ‘and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth‘ (John 14:16-17). The Father is the source of this divine gift, sending the Holy Spirit into our hearts to sanctify us, to guide the Church, and to empower us to cry out, ‘Abba, Father!’ (Romans 8:15). It is through the Spirit that we are drawn into the very life of the Trinity.

    Prière du jour

O Father of lights, from whom every good gift comes, I thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Send forth Your Spirit anew into my soul, to purify my intentions, enlighten my mind, and strengthen my will. May the Paraclete guide me into all truth, convict me of sin, and set my heart ablaze with love for You and for my neighbor, so that I may bear fruit that will last for eternity. Amen.

Jour 7 : Day 7: Abba, Father: To Whom We Pray

    Méditation

Jesus taught us the perfect prayer, the Our Father (Matthew 6:9-13). It is significant that He begins not with ‘O God’ or ‘O Lord,’ but with ‘Our Father.’ This simple address redefines our relationship with the Almighty. We are not slaves before a master, but beloved children approaching a loving Father. Every petition in this prayer—for His glory, His kingdom, His will, our daily bread, forgiveness, and deliverance—is directed to the Father, through the Son. He is the ultimate destination of all our worship and supplication.

    Prière du jour

O beloved Father, who invites us to call You ‘Our Father,’ teach me to pray with the trust and simplicity of a child. May I truly hallow Your name in my life, long for the coming of Your kingdom, and submit to Your will. Provide for all my spiritual and temporal needs, forgive my trespasses as I forgive others, and deliver me from the snares of the evil one. May my entire life become a prayer directed to You. Amen.

Jour 8 : Day 8: God the Father, Our Ultimate End

    Méditation

The ultimate purpose of our existence is eternal life with God. This life consists of the Beatific Vision: seeing God face to face. St. Paul writes, ‘For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face’ (1 Corinthians 13:12). Our final end is to be united with the Father, in the Son, through the Holy Spirit. This hope of heaven should orient our entire earthly pilgrimage. Every trial becomes bearable and every joy a foretaste of the eternal banquet prepared for us in our Father’s house, where there are ‘many mansions’ (John 14:2).

    Prière du jour

O Father, my ultimate desire is to see Your face in heaven. Keep my eyes fixed on this eternal prize. Grant me the grace of final perseverance, so that after the trials of this life, I may be found worthy to enter into the joy of Your presence. May the hope of seeing You face to face motivate me to live a life of holiness, virtue, and charity, preparing myself for that blessed day. Amen.

Jour 9 : Day 9: Approaching the Father through the Heart of Jesus

    Méditation

On this final day, we approach the Father through the one Mediator, Jesus Christ. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6). The most perfect way to honor the Father is through the Sacred Heart of His Son, the furnace of divine love. The Heart of Jesus burns with a perfect, infinite love for the Father. By uniting our prayers, works, and sufferings to the Sacred Heart, we offer the Father a tribute of infinite value. We present ourselves before Him not with our own meager merits, but clothed in the merits of Christ.

    Prière du jour

O Eternal Father, I offer You the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, with all its love, all its sufferings, and all its merits. I offer it in reparation for my sins and for the needs of the Holy Church. Look not upon my unworthiness, but upon the face of Your beloved Son. For His sake, hear my prayers and grant the intentions I have carried through this novena, if they be in accordance with Your most holy will. Amen.

    Prière Conclusive

Recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be for the intentions of the novena.

    Our Father…
    Hail Mary…
    Glory Be…

    Concluding Prayer:
Most Holy Father, I thank You for the graces granted during this novena. May my love for You grow each day, and may I live always as Your faithful child. I ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
