Novena for a Miracle: A Prayer for Special Favors

    Miracles - Illustration prière catholique

    Prière Introductive

    Introductory Daily Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

O Almighty and Everlasting God, I come before Thee, my Creator and my Lord, conscious of my own nothingness and of Thy supreme majesty. I adore Thee and I praise Thee for Thine infinite goodness. I thank Thee for the innumerable benefits which I have received from Thee, especially for having brought me to this day.

I offer Thee my thoughts, words, actions, and sufferings of this day, and I beseech Thee to give me the grace that they may all be directed to Thy glory and the salvation of my soul.

Humbly I present myself before Thy throne of mercy, to implore a special grace during this novena. (Here mention your request)

Yet, I desire above all things to submit myself to Thy most holy Will, knowing that Thou dost order all things for the greater good of my soul. If what I ask be not for Thy glory or my salvation, grant me what is most conducive to both. Amen.

Jour 1 : Day 1: The Virtue of Faith

    Méditation

Let us consider that faith is the foundation of all hope and the substance of things to be hoped for. Our Lord Himself said, ‘If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Remove from hence hither, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you.’ (Matthew 17:20). A miracle is an exception to the laws of nature, worked by the power of God alone. To obtain such a favor, we must first believe, without doubting, that God is all-powerful, that He can do all things, and that He is willing to come to our aid if it be for our good. Let us examine our own faith. Is it a living faith, firm and unshaken, even in the face of trial and darkness? Let us beg God to increase this divine virtue within our souls.

    Prière du jour

O Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief! I believe that Thou art the God of wonders, who alone canst do great things. I know that Thy power is limitless and that nothing is impossible to Thee. In this firm belief, I come to Thee, begging for the grace I so ardently desire. Increase my faith, O Lord, that I may be worthy to receive the manifestation of Thy divine power in my life. Amen.

Jour 2 : Day 2: The Virtue of Hope

    Méditation

The Apostle St. Paul speaks of Abraham, who ‘against hope believed in hope’ (Romans 4:18). Hope is the virtue by which we firmly trust that God, who is all-powerful and faithful to His promises, will in His mercy give us eternal happiness and the means to obtain it. When all human help fails, when circumstances seem desperate, it is then that the virtue of hope must shine most brightly. It is a confident expectation, not in our own merits, but in the infinite goodness and mercy of God. Let us never despair, for our God is a God of consolation and hope, who can bring forth light from darkness and life from death.

    Prière du jour

O God of all consolation, my only hope, I cast myself upon Thy mercy. In my affliction, I turn to Thee, for Thou art my refuge and my strength. Though I am surrounded by difficulties, I will not lose heart, for I place my trust in Thee. Grant me, O Lord, a hope so firm that it may never be shaken by adversity, and through this unwavering hope, deign to grant the petition I lay before Thee. Amen.

Jour 3 : Day 3: The Virtue of Humility

    Méditation

Our Lord teaches us, ‘Every one that exalteth himself, shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.’ (Luke 14:11). God resists the proud and gives His grace to the humble. A miracle is a pure gift of God’s goodness, not something we can earn or deserve. To receive such a gift, we must first empty ourselves of all pride and self-reliance. We must recognize our own unworthiness, our complete dependence upon God for all things. Like the centurion who said, ‘Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof,’ let us approach God with a contrite and humbled heart, for such a heart He will not despise.

    Prière du jour

O Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make my heart like unto Thine. I confess my pride and my self-love. I acknowledge that of myself I am nothing and can do nothing. I cast myself at Thy feet as a poor sinner, unworthy of Thy favors. Yet, trusting in Thy infinite mercy, I dare to ask for this great grace. Clothe me with humility, O Lord, that I may be pleasing in Thy sight and merit to receive the answer to my prayer. Amen.

Jour 4 : Day 4: Perseverance in Prayer

    Méditation

Consider the parable of the importunate widow, who by her persistence obtained justice from an unjust judge. Our Lord concludes, ‘And will not God revenge his elect who cry to him day and night?’ (Luke 18:7). God sometimes delays in answering our prayers, not because He is unwilling to grant them, but to test our faith, to increase our desire, and to make us appreciate the gift more when it is received. We must not be discouraged if we do not see an immediate answer. We must continue to knock, to seek, and to ask, with unwavering confidence and patience, knowing that God hears every prayer and will answer in His own time and in His own way.

    Prière du jour

O God, who hast commanded us to pray without ceasing, grant me the grace of perseverance in my supplication. Save me from discouragement and weariness. Give me the strength to continue knocking at the door of Thy mercy, day after day. I know that Thou art a loving Father who desires to give good things to Thy children. Strengthen my resolve, O Lord, and let not my faith waver, that I may persevere until the end and obtain the favor I seek. Amen.

Jour 5 : Day 5: Conformity to the Divine Will

    Méditation

The highest form of prayer is that which conforms itself entirely to the will of God. Our Lord Himself, in the Garden of Gethsemane, prayed, ‘Father, if thou wilt, remove this chalice from me: but yet not my will, but thine be done.’ (Luke 22:42). While we ardently desire a particular favor, we must hold this desire in submission to God’s perfect and all-wise plan. He sees what we cannot see and knows what is truly best for our eternal salvation. To pray for a miracle is to ask for an extraordinary intervention, but this request must always be accompanied by a profound act of abandonment to Divine Providence. True peace is found not in getting what we want, but in wanting what God wills.

    Prière du jour

O my God, I offer Thee my will. I desire what Thou desirest. I unite my petition to the prayer of Christ in the garden. I ask for this miracle, this special grace, if it be in accordance with Thy most holy will. But if Thou seest that another path is better for my soul, I accept it from Thy hands. Grant me the grace to say with all my heart, ‘Thy will be done,’ and to find my peace in perfect submission to Thy divine plan. Amen.

Jour 6 : Day 6: The Intercession of the Blessed Virgin

    Méditation

Consider the first miracle of Our Lord at the wedding feast in Cana. It was performed at the request of His Blessed Mother. When the wine failed, she simply said to Him, ‘They have no wine.’ (John 2:3). And to the servants, she said, ‘Whatsoever he shall say to you, do ye.’ Mary is the Mediatrix of all graces, the powerful intercessor who can obtain from her Divine Son what we, in our unworthiness, cannot. She is our Mother, full of tenderness and compassion for her children in their needs. Let us fly to her protection and confidently place our petition in her immaculate hands.

    Prière du jour

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Refuge of Sinners and Health of the Sick, behold me at thy feet. I have recourse to thee, my powerful advocate. I place my cause in thy hands. It was through thee that Jesus worked His first miracle. I beg thee, by thy motherly love, to intercede for me now. Speak a word for me to thy Divine Son. Present my petition to Him, and obtain for me the grace which I so earnestly implore in this novena. Amen.

Jour 7 : Day 7: The Intercession of the Saints

    Méditation

The Saints are the friends of God, reigning with Him in glory. The Sacred Scriptures teach that ‘the continual prayer of a just man availeth much.’ (James 5:16). How much more, then, must the prayers of the blessed in heaven avail before the throne of God! They are not distant spectators but active members of the Communion of Saints, who take a loving interest in our struggles on earth. They desire our salvation and our good, and they unceasingly intercede for us. Let us choose a patron saint, perhaps one known for obtaining miracles, such as St. Jude, St. Anthony, or St. Rita, and ask for their powerful assistance in our need.

    Prière du jour

O glorious Saints of God, who now enjoy the beatific vision, I call upon you in my time of need. You who have fought the good fight and have received the crown of glory, look with compassion upon me, a poor pilgrim on earth. I especially invoke thee, my patron, Saint Jude, to be my advocate before God. Join thy powerful prayers to my feeble ones, and by your united intercession, may I obtain from the Giver of all good gifts the miracle for which I pray. Amen.

Jour 8 : Day 8: The Necessity of Charity and Forgiveness

    Méditation

Our Lord is clear in His teaching: ‘And when you shall stand to pray, forgive, if you have aught against any man; that your Father also, who is in heaven, may forgive you your sins.’ (Mark 11:25). We cannot expect to receive mercy from God if we are not merciful to others. A heart filled with resentment, bitterness, or hatred is closed to the grace of God. Before we ask for an extraordinary favor, we must examine our conscience. Do we harbor any ill-will towards our neighbor? Have we refused to forgive an injury? Let us make an act of sincere forgiveness, pardoning all who have offended us, so that our own prayers may not be hindered.

    Prière du jour

O merciful Father, who hast commanded us to love one another as Thou hast loved us, I come before Thee with a contrite heart. I freely and sincerely forgive all who have ever injured or offended me. I pray for them and ask Thee to bless them. Cleanse my heart of all bitterness and resentment. Fill me with Thy divine charity, that I may love my neighbor for Thy sake. In this spirit of reconciliation, I humbly renew my petition, trusting that Thou wilt hear the prayer of a heart at peace with all men. Amen.

Jour 9 : Day 9: Gratitude and Thanksgiving

    Méditation

St. Paul exhorts us: ‘In every thing, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God.’ (Philippians 4:6). Even before our prayer is answered, we should cultivate a spirit of gratitude. We thank God not only for the favor we hope to receive, but for all His past blessings, for the gift of life, of faith, and for His constant providence. This act of thanksgiving demonstrates our trust in His goodness and His love. We place our petition in His hands, and we thank Him in advance for His response, whatever it may be, knowing that He is our loving Father who always wills our ultimate good.

    Prière du jour

O Lord, my God, before this novena concludes, I wish to offer Thee my heartfelt thanks. I thank Thee for the grace of these nine days of prayer. I thank Thee for hearing my petition. With a heart full of trust, I thank Thee in advance for the favor I hope to receive, or for the greater grace which Thou hast prepared for me in its place. I abandon all to Thy divine providence. May Thy name be blessed now and for ever. Amen.

    Prière Conclusive

    Concluding Daily Prayer

O Lord God, whose mercies are without number and whose goodness is an infinite treasure, I give Thee thanks for all the graces Thou hast bestowed upon me. I place my trust entirely in Thee, O my God, my strength and my hope.

May Thy will be done in me and through me. I abandon myself to Thy loving care.

Recite one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.
