A Prayer for the Family
Invocation to God the Father
O GOD of goodness and mercy, who hast been pleased that the family, sanctified in Christ, should be the model for Thy Church; we humbly kneel before Thee to consecrate and entrust our own to Thy loving care.
Petition for Grace and Unity
We beseech Thee, look down upon this household, and pour forth Thy blessings upon it. Banish from our home all division and discord; may perfect charity, peace, and concord reign amongst us. May our home be, like the Holy Family’s at Nazareth, a sanctuary of love and piety.
Grant to us all the grace to fulfill our duties with fidelity. May the parents be a model of virtue to their children; may the children be the crown of their parents. May we bear with one another’s faults, forgive each other’s trespasses, and live in that bond of charity which knitteth all things together in perfectness.
For Spiritual and Temporal Needs
Protect us from the dangers of the world. Keep sin and wickedness far from our door. We pray Thee, guard our souls and our bodies from all evil. Bestow upon us health, and provide for our daily wants, that we may serve Thee with a more free and ready heart.
Intercession of the Holy Family
O most amiable Jesus, who by Thy submission to Mary and Joseph didst consecrate domestic life with ineffable virtues; O most Blessed Virgin Mary, queen and mother of every Christian family; O Saint Joseph, most watchful guardian of Jesus and Mary; we place our family under your protection. Defend us, guide us, and lead us in the path of virtue, that, being faithful to Thee on earth, we may be worthy to praise Thee for ever in heaven. Amen.

Devotion to the Holy Family as the model for all Christian families gained significant prominence in the 17th century and was formally instituted in the universal Church by Pope Leo XIII in 1893. Prayers for the family, inspired by the virtues of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, became a cornerstone of Catholic piety.
