A Prayer for Healing and Health
Invocation to the Most Holy Trinity
O Almighty and Eternal God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I come before Thee in my affliction. Thou art the source of all life and health; look with mercy upon me, Thy humble servant, who suffers in body and in spirit.
Prayer to Jesus, the Divine Physician
O Lord Jesus Christ, who during Thy earthly life didst show such great compassion for the sick and afflicted, I place all my trust in Thee. Thou didst go about healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. I beseech Thee, O Divine Physician, to extend Thy healing hand over me. If it be Thy holy will, restore health to my body, peace to my mind, and strength to my soul.
Grant me the grace to bear this trial with patience and to unite my sufferings with Thine own upon the Cross, for the salvation of my soul and the souls of others. Teach me to accept Thy will in all things, knowing that Thou dost order all things for my ultimate good.
Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary
O Most Holy Mary, Mother of God, Health of the Sick, I fly to thy protection. As a loving mother, thou knowest my needs. Intercede for me with thy Son, that I may obtain the grace of healing, or the strength to carry my cross in a manner pleasing to Him. Pray for me, O Holy Mother of God, that I may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Invocation of Saint Raphael the Archangel
O glorious Archangel, Saint Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, illustrious for thy gifts of wisdom and grace, guide of those who journey by land or sea or air, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners; I beg thee, assist me in all my necessities and in all the sufferings of this life, as once thou didst help the young Tobias on his travels. Because thou art the “medicine of God,” I humbly pray thee to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of thee the favour of [here mention your request] and the great grace of purity to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
Contexte Historique
Prayers for healing are deeply rooted in Christian tradition, drawing inspiration from the numerous miracles of Christ recorded in the Gospels. The faithful have always turned to God in times of sickness, seeking physical restoration and spiritual fortitude. This particular form of prayer often includes an appeal to Jesus as the ‘Divine Physician,’ a title used by early Church Fathers. Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title ‘Salus Infirmorum’ (Health of the Sick) became widespread, especially in times of plague. Likewise, the intercession of St. Raphael the Archangel, whose name means ‘God heals’ and whose story is told in the Book of Tobit, has long been sought by those suffering from bodily ailments.
