The Golden Arrow Prayer

(Dictated by Our Lord to Sister Mary of St. Peter)

May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and unutterable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.

After reciting this prayer, Sister Mary of St. Peter was given a vision in which she saw the Sacred Heart of Jesus delightfully wounded by this “Golden Arrow,” as torrents of graces streamed from It for the conversion of sinners.

An Offering of the Holy Face

O Eternal Father, I offer Thee the adorable Face of Thy Beloved Son Jesus for the honour and glory of Thy Name, for the conversion of sinners and for the salvation of the dying. Amen.

Litany of the Holy Face of Jesus

Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, hear us.
Christ, graciously hear us.

God the Father of Heaven, have mercy on us.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.
God the Holy Ghost, have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us.

O Jesus, whose adorable Face Mary and Joseph worshipped with profoundest reverence, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face is the masterpiece of the Holy Ghost, in which the Father was well pleased, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face is the delight of the Angels, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face was bathed in sweat and tears in the Garden of Gethsemane, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face was struck by a vile servant, blindfolded, and profaned by the sacrilegious hands of Thine enemies, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face was defiled with spittle and bruised by so many buffets and blows, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face had Its divine glance dimmed by the blood and tears which streamed from Thine eyes, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face was adored by the Angels and looked upon by the Blessed Mother with reverence and love, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face was covered with the sweat of death and dishonoured by the kiss of a traitor, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face was imprinted on the veil of Veronica, have mercy on us.
O Jesus, whose adorable Face we now adore in spirit and in truth, have mercy on us.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, spare us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, graciously hear us, O Lord.
Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Contexte Historique

The Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus has ancient roots in the tradition of the Veil of Veronica, but it was formally established in the 1840s through revelations to a Carmelite nun, Sister Marie of St. Peter, in Tours, France. Our Lord revealed to her that this devotion was intended to make reparation for the sins of blasphemy and the profanation of Sunday, which He described as arrows that wound His Sacred Heart. The devotion was championed by the Venerable Leo Dupont, the ‘Holy Man of Tours,’ and later approved by Pope Leo XIII in 1885. It is a powerful means of adoring the disfigured Face of Christ in His Passion and making amends for offenses against God.

Life of Saint Anthony of Padua

Saint Anthony of Padua (1195 – 1231), born Fernando Martins de Bulhões in Lisbon, Portugal, was a Franciscan friar renowned for his profound knowledge of the Scriptures and his eloquent preaching. Initially an Augustinian canon, he was moved by the martyrdom of five Franciscans in Morocco to join the Friars Minor, hoping to preach the Gospel and suffer the same fate. Though ill health prevented him from going to Morocco, his true calling was revealed when he was asked to preach at an ordination. His words, filled with the fire of the Holy Ghost, astonished all who heard him. He became a celebrated preacher throughout Italy and France, earning the title “Hammer of Heretics” for his defense of the Faith. He was a contemporary and friend of Saint Francis of Assisi himself. Known as the “Wonder-Worker” for the many miracles attributed to his intercession both in life and after his death, he was canonized less than a year after he died. In 1946, Pope Pius XII declared him a Doctor of the Church, bearing the title Doctor Evangelicus.

Prayers to Saint Anthony

Prayer for Lost Articles

O glorious St. Anthony, who didst receive from God the special power of restoring lost things, grant that I may find that which has been lost.
(Mention your request)
At least restore to me peace and tranquility of mind, the loss of which has afflicted me even more than my material loss. To this favour I ask another of thee: that I may always remain in possession of the true good that is God. Let me rather lose all things than lose God, my supreme good. Let me never suffer the loss of my greatest treasure, eternal life with God. Amen.

The Unfailing Prayer to Saint Anthony

O holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me my request.
(Mention your request)
The answer to my prayer may require a miracle; even so, you are the Saint of Miracles. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen.

Responsory of St. Anthony (Si Quaeris Miracula)

This ancient prayer, composed by Friar Julian of Spires, is often recited for the recovery of lost things and for other graces.

If then you ask for miracles,
Death, error, all calamities,
The leprosy and demons fly,
And health succeeds infirmities.

Cedunt mare, vincula;
membra, resque perditas
petunt et accipiunt
juvenes et cani.

The sea obeys and fetters break,
And lifeless limbs thou dost restore;
While treasures lost are found again,
When young and old thine aid implore.

Pereunt pericula,
cessat et necessitas;
narrent hi, qui sentiunt,
dicant Paduani.

All dangers vanish at thy prayer,
And direst need doth quickly flee;
Let those who know thy power proclaim,
Let Paduans say these things of thee.

V. Pray for us, O blessed Anthony.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.
O God, may the votive commemoration of blessed Anthony, thy Confessor and Doctor, be a source of joy to thy Church, that she may always be fortified with spiritual assistance, and may deserve to possess eternal joy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Contexte Historique

Saint Anthony of Padua is one of the most beloved saints in the Catholic Church. A Franciscan friar and Doctor of the Church from the 13th century, he is widely invoked as the patron saint of lost articles. This patronage stems from a story in which a novice stole a precious book of psalms from the saint. St. Anthony prayed for its return, and the thief was moved not only to return the psalter but also to repent and rejoin the order. For centuries, the faithful have turned to St. Anthony with a simple rhyme or a formal prayer, trusting in his powerful intercession to find not only lost possessions but also lost faith, lost peace, and lost souls.

Devotion to Saint Francis of Assisi

O glorious Saint Francis, Seraphic Father, mirror of all virtues, who didst bear in thy body the sacred stigmata of our Lord Jesus Christ, I implore thy intercession. Thou who didst renounce the vanities of the world to embrace poverty and humility, obtain for us the grace to be detached from earthly goods, to bear the trials of this life with patience, and to live and die in the love of God and our neighbour.

Prayer for a Special Favor

O glorious Saint Francis, who for the love of Christ didst strip thyself of every earthly thing and become poor and humble, I beseech thee to remember me in my needs. Through thy powerful intercession, obtain for me from God the grace I now ask (here mention your request). And if what I ask is not for the glory of God and the good of my soul, obtain for me some other grace that will be more profitable to me. Amen.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be.

The Peace Prayer of Saint Francis

(This prayer, though perfectly embodying the Franciscan spirit, is of modern origin, dating to the early 20th century.)

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

The Canticle of the Sun

Most High, all-powerful, good Lord,
Yours are the praises, the glory, and the honour, and all blessing.
To You alone, Most High, do they belong,
and no man is worthy to mention Your name.

Praised be You, my Lord, with all Your creatures,
especially Sir Brother Sun,
Who is the day and through whom You give us light.
And he is beautiful and radiant with great splendour;
and bears a likeness of You, Most High One.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Moon and the stars,
in heaven You formed them clear and precious and beautiful.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Wind,
and through the air, cloudy and serene, and every kind of weather,
through whom You give sustenance to Your creatures.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water,
who is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.

Praised be You, my Lord, through Brother Fire,
through whom You light the night,
and he is beautiful and playful and robust and strong.

Praised be You, my Lord, through our Sister Mother Earth,
who sustains and governs us,
and who produces various fruit with coloured flowers and herbs.

Praise and bless my Lord and give Him thanks
and serve Him with great humility. Amen.

Contexte Historique

Saint Francis of Assisi (c. 1181–1226), the “Poverello” or “little poor one,” is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic Church. After a worldly youth, he renounced all earthly possessions to embrace a life of radical poverty and service to Christ in His creatures. He founded the Franciscan Order and is renowned for his love of all creation, his profound humility, and for being the first recorded stigmatic in Christian history, bearing the wounds of Christ’s Passion in his own body. Devotion to him is widespread, and he is invoked as the patron saint of animals, merchants, and ecology. The famous “Peace Prayer” is often attributed to him, but it first appeared in a French publication in 1912 and is not found in his own writings. Nevertheless, it perfectly reflects the spirit of his life and teachings.

Prayer to Saint Bernadette

O humble Saint Bernadette, chosen by God to be the favored confidante of the Immaculate Virgin, thou who didst behold her beauty and receive her messages of penance and of hope; look with pity upon us, thy devoted servants, who implore thy powerful intercession.

Thou who didst endure with patience the scorn of the proud, the doubts of the prudent, and the harshness of the severe, obtain for us the grace of a simple and trusting faith. Teach us to cherish the poverty of spirit, that we may be rich in the eyes of God. Teach us to seek the hidden life of prayer and sacrifice, that we may atone for our sins and for the sins of the world.

O faithful messenger of Mary, who didst bring forth to the world a spring of healing water, ask for us the grace of purity of heart, that our souls may be cleansed from every stain. Be our guide in the pilgrimage of this life, our strength in trial, and our comfort in affliction. As thou didst suffer greatly in thy body, obtain for all the sick the grace of patience and resignation to God’s holy will.

Intercede for us, O blessed seer of Lourdes, that, by imitating thy virtues, we may one day be worthy to see our heavenly Mother, with thee, in the glory of paradise.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

Invocations to Saint Bernadette

Saint Bernadette, child of Mary, pray for us.
Saint Bernadette, faithful in little things, pray for us.
Saint Bernadette, lover of the Cross, pray for us.
Saint Bernadette, comfort of the afflicted, pray for us.
Saint Bernadette, whose heart was pure and simple, pray for us.

Let us pray.

O God, who didst vouchsafe to call the humble maiden Bernadette to behold Thy immaculate Mother in the grotto of Lourdes, and didst make her a messenger of prayer and penance; grant, we beseech Thee, through her merits and intercession, that we may walk in simplicity of heart and be found worthy to attain unto the joys of everlasting life. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Contexte Historique

Saint Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879) was a poor and unlettered shepherdess from Lourdes, France. In 1858, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to her eighteen times in the grotto of Massabielle. During these apparitions, Our Lady revealed herself as the ‘Immaculate Conception’ and called for prayer and penance for the conversion of sinners. Despite intense scrutiny and disbelief, Bernadette remained steadfast in her testimony. She later entered the convent of the Sisters of Charity of Nevers, where she lived a hidden life of prayer and service, bearing great physical suffering with heroic patience. Devotion to Saint Bernadette centers on her profound humility, simplicity of faith, and her role as the chosen instrument of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face

Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin was born in Alençon, France, on the second day of January, 1873. Drawn from her earliest years to the religious life, she entered the Carmelite convent at Lisieux at the tender age of fifteen. In the cloister, she lived a life of profound humility, evangelical simplicity, and unwavering confidence in God. By her words and her example, she taught the novices the way of spiritual childhood, a path of trust and absolute surrender to the love of God our Father.

Offering her life for the salvation of souls and the propagation of the Faith, she welcomed the trial of a grievous illness, which she bore with heroic patience. She departed this life for her heavenly reward on September 30, 1897, at the age of twenty-four, promising to spend her heaven in doing good upon earth, and to let fall a shower of roses. Pope Pius XI canonized her in 1925 and later proclaimed her, along with Saint Francis Xavier, the universal Patroness of the Missions. In 1997, Pope John Paul II declared her a Doctor of the Universal Church.

The Little Way

The spirituality of Saint Thérèse, which she called her Little Way, consists not in performing great and heroic deeds for God, but in accomplishing the most ordinary duties of daily life with extraordinary love. It is a path of confidence and love, wherein the soul, recognizing its own nothingness, casts itself with childlike abandon into the arms of our Merciful Father, trusting wholly in His goodness and His desire for our sanctification. She teaches us that holiness is accessible to all, for it is found in the humble acceptance of God’s will and in the loving fulfillment of every small task for His glory.

Prayers to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

Prayer for the Intercession of Saint Thérèse

O glorious St. Thérèse, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family, I implore your miraculous intercession. Thou who art so powerful in obtaining every need of body and soul, turn thine eyes of mercy upon me. I am in need of your assistance, and I confidently place my trust in thee. As a victim of God’s merciful love, you did desire to spend your heaven in doing good upon earth. Fulfill now thy promise, and obtain for me from our Heavenly Father the graces I seek through thy hands.
(Here mention your petitions)
O Little Flower of Jesus, who didst ever find your joy in the smallest sacrifices, teach me thy little way of trust and love, that I may one day join thee in praising the mercies of the Lord for all eternity. Amen.

The Novena Rose Prayer

O Little Flower of Jesus, who didst promise to send a shower of roses from the heavens, I beseech thee to obtain for me from God the graces I hope for from His infinite goodness. Never-failing in thy promise, thou dost continually pour down upon the world the roses of thy heavenly favors. I ask thee, therefore, dear Saint, to hear my prayer and to present my petitions to the throne of God. Let a rose from thee be a sign to me that my prayer is heard, and join thy supplications to mine that I may receive the mercy and help of the Most High. Amen.

Saint Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-1897), a French Discalced Carmelite nun, is one of the most beloved saints of the modern era. Her spirituality, known as the ‘Little Way,’ teaches that holiness is attainable for everyone, not through great deeds, but through simple acts of love and trust in God in the ordinary moments of life. Her autobiography, ‘The Story of a Soul,’ published after her death, revealed this profound yet simple path to sanctity, inspiring countless souls. Devotion to her spread rapidly, and she is widely invoked for her powerful intercession, often signified by the reception of roses as a sign of her favor.

Prayer to Blessed Carlo Acutis

O God, our Father, we thank Thee for having given us Carlo, a model of life for young people, and a message of love for all. Thou didst make him fall in love with Thy Son, Jesus, making the Eucharist his “highway to Heaven.” Thou didst give him Mary as a most loving Mother, and Thou didst make him, through the Rosary, a cantor of her tenderness. Receive his prayer for us.

Look above all upon the poor, whom he loved and assisted. Grant me too, through his intercession, the grace that I need (here mention your request).

And make our joy full, raising Carlo among the Saints of Thy universal Church, so that his smile may shine again for us to the glory of Thy name. Amen.

Pray one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.

Short Litany to Blessed Carlo Acutis

Blessed Carlo Acutis, model of youthful holiness,
Pray for us.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, devoted servant of the Eucharist,
Pray for us.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, apostle of the internet,
Pray for us.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, defender of the sanctity of life,
Pray for us.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, comfort to the afflicted,
Pray for us.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, lover of the poor,
Pray for us.
Blessed Carlo Acutis, example of purity and charity,
Pray for us.

Contexte Historique

Blessed Carlo Acutis (1991-2006) is a modern witness to the Catholic faith, beatified by Pope Francis in 2020. From a young age, this Italian boy demonstrated a profound love for the Holy Eucharist, which he called his “highway to heaven,” and attended Mass daily. Possessing a remarkable talent for computer programming, he dedicated his skills to the service of the Church, creating a website to catalogue and promote Eucharistic miracles throughout the world. He offered his sufferings from leukemia for the Pope and the Church, dying at the tender age of fifteen. His life stands as a powerful testament that holiness is attainable for the young in our digital age, making him a patron for youth and computer programmers.

Consecration to Saint Joseph

O Glorious Saint Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin, foster-father of the Son of God, and protector of Holy Church, I come before thee to consecrate myself to thy paternal care. Throughout thy life, thou wert a model of every virtue, a faithful and prudent servant, and a comforter of the afflicted.

To thee I consecrate myself, body and soul. I give to thee my heart and all my affections. I place in thy hands my life and my death, my joys and my sorrows, and all my works, that thou mayest be my guide, my protector, and my father.

O most chaste spouse of the Mother of God, obtain for me a great purity of heart and a love for the interior life. Thou who didst feel the sorrows of Jesus and Mary, console me in the trials of this life, and assist me in the hour of my death.

O glorious Patriarch, Patron of the Universal Church, I choose thee as my special patron. I resolve to honour thee with a particular devotion. Be thou my father, my protector, my guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me a great purity of heart and a fervent love of the interior life. After thy example, may all my actions be for the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

O blessed Joseph, pray for me, that I may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.

Contexte Historique

The practice of consecrating oneself to Saint Joseph is a venerable tradition in the Catholic Church, flowing from his unique role as the foster-father of Jesus and the chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Devotion to him grew significantly over the centuries, and in 1870, Pope Pius IX formally declared him the Patron of the Universal Church. This act solidified his position as a powerful intercessor and protector for all the faithful. A consecration to Saint Joseph is an act of entrusting one’s spiritual and temporal well-being to his fatherly care, seeking his guidance and protection in imitation of his virtues of humility, obedience, and faithfulness.

Traditional Prayers to Our Lord Jesus Christ

This collection contains some of the most cherished and traditional prayers of the Catholic Church addressed directly to Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. May they bring you closer to His Most Sacred Heart.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy defend me.
In the hour of my death call me.
And bid me come unto Thee,
That with Thy Saints I may praise Thee,
For ever and ever. Amen.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of Hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

Prayer Before a Crucifix

Behold, O good and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in Thy sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and beseech Thee that Thou wouldst impress upon my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity, with true repentance for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment; while with deep affection and grief of soul I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate Thy five most precious wounds, having before my eyes that which David the prophet spoke of Thee, O good Jesus: “They have pierced my hands and my feet, they have numbered all my bones.”

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore Thee, I love Thee, and with a lively sorrow for my sins I offer Thee this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure, and wholly obedient to Thy will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in Thee and for Thee. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Thy blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Amen.

Contexte Historique

Prayer to Jesus Christ is the very heart of Christian life, flowing directly from the faith of the Apostles who recognized Him as Lord and God. From the simple cries of the blind man, ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ recorded in the Gospels, devotion to the person of Christ has blossomed into a rich treasury of prayers. Over the centuries, the Church has fostered devotions to His Sacred Heart, His Most Holy Name, His Precious Blood, and His presence in the Blessed Sacrament, each offering a unique path to deepen one’s relationship with the Savior of mankind.

Prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, is a cornerstone of Catholic piety. Through these traditional prayers, the faithful seek her powerful intercession, praise her virtues, and meditate upon her unique role in the history of salvation.

The Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life, our sweetness, and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
V. Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

The Magnificat

My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.
And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.
He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy:
As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Contexte Historique

Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, known as Marian devotion, is as ancient as the Church herself. It is rooted in her depiction in the Gospels as the willing instrument of God’s plan of salvation. The prayers addressed to her are not acts of worship, which is due to God alone, but of veneration and a request for her intercession with her Son, Jesus Christ. Prayers like the ‘Hail Mary’ combine scriptural verses with a plea for aid, while ancient hymns like the ‘Hail Holy Queen’ have been part of the Church’s liturgical and private prayer life for centuries, expressing the confidence of the faithful in her maternal care.

Prayers to the Holy Angels

The following are traditional prayers to the Holy Angels, who are pure spirits created by God to be His servants and messengers. They behold the face of the Father in heaven, and are sent to minister to us, who are heirs of salvation.

Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel

Composed by Pope Leo XIII

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.

Prayer to Saint Gabriel the Archangel

O blessed Archangel Gabriel, we beseech thee, do thou who didst announce to Mary the mystery of the Incarnation, and art called the messenger of God, intercede for us with our Lord, that we may receive the fruits of His redemption, and that we may praise Him with thee and all the angels for ever and ever.
Amen.

Prayer to Saint Raphael the Archangel

O glorious Archangel Saint Raphael, great prince of the heavenly court, illustrious for thy gifts of wisdom and grace, guide of those who journey by land or sea, consoler of the afflicted, and refuge of sinners; I beg thee, assist me in all my needs and in all the sufferings of this life, as thou didst assist the young Tobias on his travels. Because thou art the “medicine of God,” I humbly pray thee to heal the many infirmities of my soul and the ills that afflict my body. I especially ask of thee the favor of (here mention your request) and the great grace of purity to prepare me to be the temple of the Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Prayer to one’s Guardian Angel

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day be at my side,
To light and guard, to rule and guide.
Amen.

A General Prayer to All the Holy Angels

O holy Angels, who are the guardians of our souls and bodies, who watch over us at all times with a most tender and loving care; we render you most humble thanks for the many benefits you have conferred upon us. We conjure you, O amiable guides, to continue your charitable care and to defend us against all the assaults of our enemies, that we may be so happy as to enter into the possession of eternal glory. Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Contexte Historique

The veneration of Angels is an ancient practice in the Catholic Church, rooted in Sacred Scripture. Angels are understood as pure, spiritual beings created by God to serve as His messengers and to minister to humanity. The Council of Trent affirmed their existence and the licitness of invoking them. Catholic devotion distinguishes among the nine choirs of angels and gives special honor to the three Archangels named in the Bible: Saint Michael (‘Who is like God?’), the protector of the Church; Saint Gabriel (‘Strength of God’), the messenger of the Incarnation; and Saint Raphael (‘Medicine of God’), the guide and healer. Devotion to one’s personal Guardian Angel, a belief that each soul is entrusted to a specific angel for protection and guidance, has also been a constant and cherished tradition of piety.
