Prayers to the Holy Spirit for Protection
In the trials and temptations of this life, the faithful soul turns to the Holy Ghost, the Sanctifier and Comforter, for strength and protection against the snares of the enemy. He is the Spirit of Fortitude, who gives us courage in spiritual combat, and the Spirit of Truth, who dispels the darkness of error and deceit. These prayers are offered to invoke His divine assistance and to place ourselves under His mighty protection.
Prayer for the Seven Gifts in Spiritual Combat
O Holy Ghost, Divine Spirit of light and love, I consecrate to Thee my understanding, my heart and my will, my whole being for time and for eternity. May my understanding be always submissive to Thy heavenly inspirations, and to the teachings of the holy Catholic Church, of which Thou art the infallible Guide.
Vouchsafe to grant unto me the Gift of Wisdom, that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal.
Grant me the Gift of Understanding, to enlighten my mind with the light of Thy divine truth.
Grant me the Gift of Counsel, that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven.
Grant me the Gift of Fortitude, that I may bear my cross with Thee and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation.
Grant me the Gift of Knowledge, that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints.

Grant me the Gift of Fear of the Lord, that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him.
Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Thy true disciples, and animate me in all things with Thy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer to the Holy Ghost to Guard the Soul
O Divine Paraclete, Father of the poor, Comforter of the afflicted, deign to enter into the poor dwelling of my soul. Come and cleanse it of all stain, and sanctify it with Thy grace.
Guard my eyes, that they may not look upon vanity.
Guard my ears, that they may not hearken to slander or godless speech.
Guard my tongue, that it may not speak deceit, but ever bless Thy Holy Name.
Guard my heart, that it may be a temple for Thee alone, and be kept from all affection for evil.
Defend me, O mighty Spirit, from the assaults of the devil. In temptation, be Thou my strength; in sorrow, be Thou my comfort; in weakness, be Thou my support. Lead me by Thy holy guidance, protect me under the shadow of Thy wings, and bring me at last to the glory of Paradise, there to praise Thee for ever. Amen.

Spirit of God, banish from me the spirit of evil.

Devotion to the Holy Spirit is as ancient as the Church herself, rooted in the event of Pentecost. While specific prayers for ‘protection’ from the Holy Spirit are less formalized than those to St. Michael, the act of invoking the Third Person of the Trinity for strength, guidance, and defence against evil is a constant tradition. The Holy Spirit, as the Sanctifier and the giver of the seven gifts—especially Fortitude and Counsel—is naturally called upon as a powerful protector in spiritual warfare.
